What is Paint Correction?

Paint correction is machine polishing with an abrasive compound and is commonly referred to as a cut and polish. The process is referred to as paint correction as it's a permanent solution that resurfaces the top layer of paint (usually the clearcoat) and removes scuffs, oxidised/chalky paint, swirl marks and restores gloss.

The term paint correction is confusing as it's a very broad term for what is technically professional machine polishing. To see if our paint correction is right for you, we have listed the common paint defects that can be fixed and problems that cant:

Basic Correction Options

Spot Machine Polishing

As the name suggests, spot polishing is buffing small areas of paint to help reduce the appearance of isolated scratches or defects. This option gives customers a great value opportunity to restore areas with issues such as entry marks and small nicks and scuffs around the car without the expense of full correction.

Spot polishing works better on lighter coloured cars. Dark coloured paints may not be suitable for this type of polishing as the contrast between polished and unpolished paint is too obvious and looks patchy.

Spot polishing is charged per panel and is only available as an add-on with a detail package.

Eye Level Paint Correction

Eye level correction is a term I invented that stuck. It refers to a single stage of paint correction but to only the most visible areas of the car. We correct only the areas that catch the eye so you get the most cost efficient improvement possible. The areas we correct are the bonnet, tops of doors, quarter panels, boot and A, B, C pillars.

Its designed as a cost effective way to get the benefits of machine polishing without the full expense and time involved in full correction packages. This paint correction is a very popular option for people trying to sell their cars. Eye level correction is suitable for all paint colours as we blend areas. Roof is not included so if you want the roof polished we suggest getting a full correction or Restoration detail.

Eye level correction is only available as an add-on with a detail package.

Our Paint Correction Packages

Single, Dual, and Triple Stage.

The Single Stage

Single stage correction achieves 60-70% removal of defects

The run down.

The Single Stage correction package is designed as a enhancement package that includes one stage of polishing. We use a Rupes Bigfoot polisher that enables an effective cut while leaving a hologram-free mirror finish. The random orbit action of the polisher allows for good improvement of colour depth and overall shine while taking less time than conventional two stage orbital polishing.

The Single stage package compliments lighter coloured cars or cars that only require light correction. Although this method will not remove all the swirls and paint defects it will improve the overall shine dramatically and still proves the most popular choice for daily driven cars. A showroom shine maybe unsustainable for most daily drive cars however we have found that a single stage machine polish bi-annually keeps newer cars looking brand new. This packages gives an affordable permanent improvement with the peace of mind your car is in capable hands.

The Dual Stage

Dual stage correction achieves 70-85% removal of defects.

The run down.

The dual stage is an effective paint correction packages that includes two stages of polishing. The first stage is usually a heavy rotary machine polish that removes the deeper imperfections. This stage of polishing creates more heat and is more effective at removing material quicker. The first stage of polishing will leave unsightly holograms so the second stage of machine polishing uses a finishing compound to remove these and ensures a high gloss finish.

The dual stage takes more time but achieves and far better result compared to single stage polishing. The dual enables more material to be removed thus restoring deeper imperfections. The dual stage is more versatile and comprehensive correction package that takes a minimum of 4.5 hours to complete on a small car. See our price estimator for more time and cost information.

The triple stage includes three stage of polishing. This enables more heavy cutting stages or more finishing stages. This packages gives you the best possible finish. This package is time intensive so please make your car available for an entire day as good careful correction takes time.

Typically the triple stage includes two stages of rotary polishing, the first being an aggressive compound followed by a medium grade compound. This gives a deep cut while keeping marring to an acceptable level that will be easily removed by the final finishing stage. The triple stage takes a minimum of 6 hours on a small car so please check our price estimator for more information on price and time required.
